Our Mission

Our Story

Warm greetings from AshaJyothi

AshaJyothi Handicapped Welfare Society was born from difficulties and agony faced by our own family in the year 1998. This is a story of how one man turned his life’s tragedy into a blessing for many. The story of a father who lost his daughter “BalaJyothi” at a young age who suffered from mental illness. He honored her memory by starting AshaJyothi to save children with special needs, orphan, abandoned and underprivileged.

Children who are physically challenged, speech and hearing impaired, Autistic, Downs Syndrome and Blind. Children who cannot walk, eat, bathe. Children who cannot accomplish basic tasks in life that we often take for granted. Children who need love, security, medical care, and necessities of life. All of them were either abandoned or orphaned at an incredibly young age. It is disheartening to see such children being left out and pathetic to see parents leaving such children at orphanages or abandoning treating them as a liability. This is the exact reason why AshaJyothi was founded with the objective to rescue and rehabilitate such children.

AshaJyothi began its journey with a small home to protect mentally disabled and abandoned children at Hanuman Junction, West Godavari District, India in 1998 with 10 children.

In the year 2005 AshaJyothi shifted to its own premises. Thanks a ton, to our sponsors “Care n Share”, and others who provided relentless support in realizing our dreams. They helped us in the process to build our own home and comfortable premises with all basic amenities like beds, toilets, health care, kitchen, school and para medical support. AshaJyothi campus now helps more than 80 special needs children.

With the support of Neurogen, Mumbai we were able to provide the latest medical treatment for our children. We have well-equipped in-house facility for physiotherapy and 24/7 nursing support. Our children need continuous medical evaluation, physiotherapy, aids and appliances for the physically challenged like wheelchairs, hearing-aids, etc. and special education & training for survival.

We, at AshaJyothi not only work to make the children normal, but also teach them the required skills to empower them to live on their own in future. Thanks to the volunteers from Ireland, Germany etc., who visit us every year and provide various therapies to our children.

We sincerely acknowledge the support from various other organizations like Save the Child Foundation, Excel n Empower for their continued support to AshaJyothi.

Our mission is only to see Smiles on the faces of special needs children and that such smiles should sustain for lifetime. We appeal to individuals, Organizations and Philanthropists to support us to accomplish this mission. This will only enable AshaJyothi to extend all its services to protect these children.

Sincerely

Madhavi Latha

Director
